The Lovely Art of Christie Repasy

One of the things I always look forward to is going to an event where artist Christie Repasy
will be showing her beautiful paintings and art work.

I'm sure you are all familiar with Christie from her lovely blog Chateau De Fleurs and seeing her
work in leading magazines, her HGTV appearance and on Rachel Ashwell's television show.

I first met Christie at the Olivenhain sale over a year and a half ago.  I was very familiar with her
beautiful paintings and it was such a wonderful pleasure to find her absolutely sweet and delightful.
I was just beginning to blog and wasn't quite sure if it was something I would really want to do but
she was warm and encouraging and...well, here we all are!

Some people are just born to be artists and Christie is one of those people. Her paintings are
all beautiful and peaceful.  She is best known for her French inspired romantic roses and florals
but it doesn't stop there. You should see what happens when she adds her art to chairs, doors,
shutters, etc.  It is an amazing artistic transformation.
She is a true California girl having grown up in Huntington Beach, California and studied art in
high school and college and from there developed her own exquisite style.  She has plans to take
her existing designs from already completed pieces and use them in textiles and wallpaper...and
that is just the beginning!

Orchids, Orchids, Orchids

Last weekend I drove up to Santa Barbara to visit a friend and go to the Santa
Barbara Orchid Show.  The theme of this years show was the '60's and they
called it Orchidellic.  The theme was cute but to be honest I was just there to see
some beautiful blooms.  And beautiful they were!!!  The varieties we mostly know
are Phalaenopsis, Cymbidium and Cattleys(the corsage orchid), but they had many,
many other varieties as well.  Anyway, I am going to let the beautiful blooms speak
for themselves...

I promise you these are not pansy, they are definitely orchid....

Maybe at a later date I will show you some of the "theme" displays which  were cute

but as I said, I was there just to see some beautiful blooms.

A Relaxing Afternoon

Last weekend I was getting a little worn out at catching up on chores and by Sunday
afternoon I decided to take a little break for a cup of tea...

And browse through this wonderful old book about roses...

It was published in 1914 and given to me a few years ago by my childhood (and
adulthood) friend, Stephanie Lloyd.

I love spending leisurely time with this book.  It even has a signature by a previous owner
or gift giver that is dated 1915.  The book boasts color plates and the pictures are
wonderful.

And,  as I was having my tea and enjoying the book my eye started wandering to some
of the antique perfume bottles I have.  My mother had a very large collection of antique
perfume bottles and when I moved out to California she would often send me one for
my birthday.  There would always be a sweet note saying something like "I was looking
at this and thought you should have it".  I thought maybe you might enjoy seeing a few too.
They are all hand blown and hand painted and very old.

The long thin bottle below was carried by Greta Garbo in the movie Ninotchka in 1939.
Unfortunately, the stopper was misplaced.

It really turned out to be a very relaxing afternoon.  Tulips, roses, dried hydrangeas and
a lovely book.  Not to mention a relaxing cup of tea.

How quickly time passes.  All of a sudden evening seemed to be setting in.
