I Really Do Know It's October!

I know it is the beginning of October but in Southern California we have been
having some very warm weather after what has been a very cool summer.
It's really not so unusual for our area that we are warm at this time of year.

I have been away for a few days and when I returned home today the lovely warm
weather was emphasized by these beautiful new rose blooms to welcome me.

I was going to do a post on more antiques but the weather has me experiencing
a bit of spring fever, so I will post the antiques at another time.  Please enjoy a few
more blooms from my garden this morning.

As you can see, the warm weather has made it nearly impossible for me to accept
that it is October and I should be getting ready for fall!

Debbie of  Love Of The Sea has asked a few of us to answer the following questions.
I don’t ordinarily do this kind of thing but Debbie is so lovely so I thought I would
go ahead and play along with everyone.  Here goes...

• Do you consider yourself a city girl or country girl?
Well, I think I am a country girl at heart. I love living near a city and I do tend to
make use of everything a city has to offer...cultural offerings such as museums,
galleries, all kinds of concert, etc.  Also, I love trying new restaurants and things like
that. But, if I had to choose between living in a big city and living in the country on a
daily basis, I would say I am more of a country girl at heart...but I want to have a
city not too far away.  Oh, and I would like an ocean not too far away too!

• Besides where you live, where is the one other place you would like to live? Why?
I grew up on the East Coast and when I first moved to Southern  California
I lived in Santa Barbara. I loved it. I think it is one of the most beautiful
places. I also love New England and its charm. If I had to choose somewhere
outside of this country it would be Paris or some place in Provence.

• What is your favorite thing to do on a Saturday night?
Hmmm. That depends on the kind of week I’ve had. If it has been extraordinarily
busy I would probably choose to stay home and relax. If it has been a normal
week then I would definitely want to gather with friends for a nice meal and wine.

• What is the one habit that you really want to break but know you never will?
I wish I could simplify more. I keep trying but I do love to be surrounded by
pretty things and I appreciate their beauty. So it would be difficult for me to live
a life as a true minimalist(I so wish I could). I also love the fun of the hunt...I love
antiquing and thrifting.

• If you could spend the day with one famous person, who would it be and why?
That’s a very difficult question for me because with my work I am surrounded by
well known people on a daily basis. There are many who are very interesting and
are great fun. However, I guess if I had to pick one well known person to
spend the day with it would be Neil Simon, the playwright. I have had the pleasure
of spending lots of time with Neil and we have had wonderful conversations.

• What is your favorite pastime or hobby?
Antiquing, photography, reading, designing, catching up with my wonderful friends,
trying new restaurants, traveling...and the list goes on!

• If you could choose any place in the world to go to - all expenses paid - where
would it be?
I love to travel so I would go to France, Italy, Tahiti, Scandinavia...and the list
goes on!

Now, my instructions were that after I answer the above questions I should pass
them on to other people. But instead of that I think I would prefer that when you
leave a comment,  maybe if you want, you can tell me a little something about
yourself.  Oh yes, if you are a minimalist...do you give lessons!?!

Hope you are having a lovely weekend.

The roses are still in bloom here too! Yours are gorgeous! The colors and soft textures are lovely.

I'm definitely more of a country girl at heart. Love the city, for a day, after that just get me outta there!

My husband really tries to get me to be a minimalist. He hates clutter (as do I) so I try to buy only what I truly think I'll use, or need. Our decor is pretty without being messy. I'm definitely NOT a nick-knack kind of person!

Your roses and other flowers from your garden are beautiful! My roses are blooming still, too, here in central Cali... ugh, it's sooo HOT here! It's supposed to cool down today, so I'm looking forward to that.
I'm going out today to look for some pumpkins and more fall decor... wish me luck!
Have a wonderful Sunday!

I could quite happily climb into that ruffled rose - does it have a wonderful scent? I have one lonely rose blooming against a wall, but it is really too cool now for roses up here.
If I could live somewhere else I'd choose Brussels - it's a magnet to me - the antiques, the food, the cafe life.....

These are SO beautiful!! I loved this post, the photos, the getting to know you ... I'm with you on the country/city girl. I definitely need some land around me, but I love being so close to NYC. Great post, and thanks for the good wishes - I'm definitely on the mend!

Those first roses are the perfect shade of pale pink. I am a country girl at heart but do need some amenities close by. The only city I might consider living in would be the old section of Charleston, S.C. on a cobblestone street. I settle for visiting the city sometimes. hugs♥olive

I followed you here through your comment on my blog. You have a way with a camera, lady! Your rose pictures look so real it is like I can almost smell them.

A little bit about me? Hmmm...I used to work in TV back in the late 70's and made a small splash in Florida...(very small-lol)and then went on to become the first woman in the Southern United States to sell lumber/etc. for Georgia Pacific. uh..huh...and here I am..Midwest Nana! lol

Thanks again for popping by and I got lucky to stop here on a "get to know you" question day so I feel I know you already! Hugs- Diana

Thanks for sharing.

wow -your Roses are gorgeous. Just beautiful. I could not imagine anything like that growing in the south florida humidity. I wonder if roses would grow? hmmm...I need to check that out. If they grow in Colombia - why not here?

And I like you - am a city girl and country girl combo. If I could travel anywhere - it would be to take an Antarctica Cruise - and that will put me on all 7 continents...which is my goal.

Glad you enjoyed my questions...!!

Hi S,
I loved reading this little Q & A with you, even though not one of your answers surprised me! I already feel like I've known you for years. You are such a warm and lovely lady and like I've said many times, I can't wait to meet you in person. Unfortunately I won't be a good influence in the minimalist dept. but we sure will have fun thrifting and treasure hunting together!!
Can't wait!
Hope you had yourself a lovely weekend.
XO

I would sip my tea, while walking my garden every morning if those lovely blooms were waiting for me.

Not at all surprised you're a country girl :-) Peaceful day~

Oh my, your flowers are so beautiful. I love that pink rose the best. As for the country girl/city girl thing, I'm a little of both...I like some space, but I need to live in close to a city. My top two places I would like to visit are France and Italy. Loved your Q & A...it is always fun to learn a bit more about people. Best wishes :)

Your roses are stunning, and so is your lavender! Wish I could grow them! It was fun reading your answers and getting to know you a bit better. I am definitely a country girl, though I love Paris, it's my favorite place in the world. I love Santa Barbara too, how lucky you were to live there! If I could go anywhere in the world that I haven't been, it would be Provence. Or Lake Como, Italy. Or Bora Bora. Better yet, I would visit all three!

Your roses are beautiful! The pale pink color is my favorite for a rose.

I am not a minimalis ...but I now try to be careful not to buy to buy many things any longer as the road ahead is shorter than the one behind me. I'd rather spend my time and money on travel!

If I could travel anywhere? I'd take a world wide cruise on a Cunard line!

PS: I've always liked Neil Simon's plays!

What wonderful roses! I loved reading your answers to the specific questions. It must have been hard to answer them. I enjoyed getting to know you!

Your flowers were
an absolute balm
for my spirit this
morning ~ thank you!
I call myself the
Country Mouse/City
Mouse because when
I'm in each I feel
that it's my element.
I guess that makes
me a Green Acres kind
of gal ~ love them
both! But it is truly
my hearts desire to
live near the ocean
or on a lake, someday.
Guess that could be
a big city if you are
talking Chicago and
Lake Michigan....but
I'm hoping for somewhere
a bit milder. I enjoyed
all of your answers!!

Those roses don't look real! They're so beautiful!

I'm having a hard time getting into fall myself - the weather here in Hawaii doesn't really change with seasons on the mainland.

Wow, do you really know Neil Simon? I just watched "Goodbye Girl" :)

Oh...I remember you! Are you going to the next Atelier container sale? My sister and I are afraid we'd be too tempted! Your roses look wonderful. Ditto all your answers...except I grew up in California and have never met Neil Simon! XO Trish
