Orchids, Orchids, Orchids

Last weekend I drove up to Santa Barbara to visit a friend and go to the Santa
Barbara Orchid Show.  The theme of this years show was the '60's and they
called it Orchidellic.  The theme was cute but to be honest I was just there to see
some beautiful blooms.  And beautiful they were!!!  The varieties we mostly know
are Phalaenopsis, Cymbidium and Cattleys(the corsage orchid), but they had many,
many other varieties as well.  Anyway, I am going to let the beautiful blooms speak
for themselves...

I promise you these are not pansy, they are definitely orchid....

Maybe at a later date I will show you some of the "theme" displays which  were cute
but as I said, I was there just to see some beautiful blooms.

I hope you are all enjoying a beautiful first full week of spring!

I am linking to lovely Rose Vignettes.

They are all so beautiful. I liked the ruffled ones best of all - and any with some pink. I find that I am craving colour - pansies and primulas are doing their best but I'm getting anxious for the tulips and peonies.

WOW I have always read there were all sorts of kinds of orchids, but seeing them altogether in your lovely blog post WOWS me!

I was given a beautiful orchid from a dear friend several years ago and it bloomed for a long time, but last summer quit blooming and hasn't since and I have no idea why. The leaves are still green and thick and healthy but no blooms. I have been meaning to look up what I am doing wrong.

I know it isn't overwatering, but it could be the chilling environment, we always have such a cold house - I have salt water tanks and a very warm hubs, so we keep it at a very cool temp. Yes, I wear sweaters in the summer kinda cool, could that be it I wonder? It likes warmth doesn't it?

I stopped by your blog and wondered where you were...
Garden blogs are hard to keep up during winter months.
The many varieties of orchards were stunning, I especially love your photography skils you showcased them beautifully.
One day soon we will be sharing our summer gardens.
Lots of hugs,
Rosemary...xoxo

Thanks for your beautiful photos of our Santa Barbara Orchid Show. It always amazes me how the growers can turn our Showgrounds into a Paradise Fantasy! Every year there seem to be new hybrids...the blue moth orchids you pictured must be new. I have never seen blue orchids like that and I have a house and garden full of orchids. I hope you had a wonderful time

They're all so pretty! I think my favorites are the ones with the ruffled petals or the ones that look like pansies. Hope you're having a good week :)

Beautiful! I love looking at orchids (except for the one dyed blue :)) even if I can't grow them myself. Thank you for the eye candy.

So gorgeous! I'd be hard pressed to choose a favorite and I can only imagine what it was to see them in person! I am intrigued by the variety with the pansy-like face! Thanks for my flower fix :)

Hi Masha-Believe it or not, the blue orchid is its natural color! I couldn't believe it either so I had to ask about it. I was told it is that orchid's true color.

I adore orchids but
always seem to kill
them with kindness.
Also, I've never had
any luck getting them
to re-bloom......Any
suggestions? You seem
to have a much greener
thumb than I do, my
friend : ) !!

Orchids are so exotic and beautiful! Like most people, I am only familiar with the common orchid. Thank you for sharing these great orchid pictures!
