I Just Couldn't Help Myself!

The Peony is such a beautiful flower.  It also seems like such a graceful and romantic
flower.

The peonies in my garden  have several buds but only a few have opened so today
while I was at the farmers market and saw bunches of peonies for sale...well, I just
couldn't help myself!

For some reason the colors this year seem more vibrant than usual.  Even the buds on
my plants in the garden seem more vivid.  Growing up on the east coast we had peony
plants in our yard for as long as I can remember and they were always light pink or
dark pink or white.  This year the pinks(even the light pinks)are much more vibrant and
I have even seen a couple of orange and dark maroon peonies!  I will be sticking with
the pinks and whites this year but who knows about next year.

When I first cut or buy peonies I put them in my sap bucket with ice cold water and let
them rest outside for a little while.

When the flowers have rested I bring them inside...

Hmm, these romantic beauties are perfect with old silver...especially not polished...

Have a lovely week!

Wow, those are beauties!!!
Your images look straight out of a magazine shoot. Lovely!!
I always get my peonies at Trader Joe's and have been so frustrated this year because they never arrived. Finally I asked someone there where they were and they said there were quality control issues.
If you found some at the Farmer's Market, then that's where I'm headed today... I desperately need my peony fix. I'm going crazy and your beautiful post is really making me have to have some!!!!!
I love how you love flowers. It says so much about you S!
Enjoy this precious day off my sweet friend!!
Lots of Love,
T

I just cut some more of my Sarah Bernhardts and brought them inside today. Maybe I should have let them sit outside for a bit before I brought them in, because I have been chasing ants all morning. Your peonies do look stunning with the silver.

Wow - these are amazing. I love the colors and they look just so full and lush. I wish I could find a place around here that sells peonies. This area is not big on famers markets and flower shops. So I miss out on alot of great produce and flowers. Hope you enjoy these..and that they last for a while. Take care..

So lovely. Who can resist them?
Ours bloomed and were gone in a flash due to the rain. We have a magenta color. It was supposed to be a pale pink.

The local florist explained roses and peonies were in short supply due to weather issues. Peonies season is so short too!

Like your silver plate by the way.

Those are beautiful. My own are not blooming yet. We transplanted them four years ago and FINALLY they have adjusted and are full of buds. Before all I had was greenery. I can't wait.

I love the light pinks and we always had the deep, deep rose colored ones too! I have not seen coral ones ever~ xxoo Diana

I wouldn't have been able to resist the peonies either they're lovely! Like yours mine are still small buds getting bigger every day. I only have two shrubs and need to plant more. Thanks for the cutting tips and your generous help with my blog.

The peonies you bought are so pretty, Susan! I love the way you displayed them, too. You're so lucky to live in an area where there are flower markets. All I have is the grocery store or florists (which are too expensive), and they don't sell a large variety of flowers at the grocery store... one of the reasons why I wanted a large country garden. ;-)
Thanks for adding a bit of beauty to my day!
Hope you're enjoying the long weekend!
XO,
Jo

Lovely peonies. I miss them too, but tree peonies are a good substitute... Wonderful pictures.

I think these
beauties were
made for each
other! Can't
wait for my own
peonies to bloom.
I have plenty
of tarnished
silver to show
them off in : )
What a great
pairing and what
a great eye you
had to put them
together, Susan!

Hallo lovely,

So I'm on the RIGHT blog this time!!! *blush*

I LOVE your peonies. I have a plant in the garden but it only seems to produce a scant few flowers each year. I may have to go and buy some to get a beautiful display like yours!

I love the pink peonies too, but have planted a deep red-pink this year. The jury is still out - not sure if it's exactly what I wanted.

Hi Susan. I get a bit territorial about the peonies (and lavender)I grow..hate to cut them usually. Often find myself bringing a bouquet home! Love how you offset the coral with your beautiful blue garden bucket. What a treasure. Merci and have a wonderful weekend! Trish

I absolutely love your photos of the peonies! I think they are such a beautiful and romantic flower. I don't know if I can grow them where I live but I'm determined to try after seeing your beautiful ones. I want to run out and buy some for myself tonight!

Your photos of these stunning beauties are gorgeous...love the little can and of course the silver! I did recognize the pattern and my orchid is still looking beautiful. Do you think I could grow peonies in Santa Barbara?

There are some things that send me into a blissful state. One is looking at a blue sky through a cloud of cherry blossoms. Another is a polished table with a silver jug full of pink peonies *bliss*.
The deer fence has made it possible to grow them this year, but I'll have to wait for next for bloom. In the meantime, the roadside stands sell them in big bunches.
