An Early Peek At Something Special

I know you were probably expecting me to do a post about roses right about now.
However, because I have been telling you about my visit to The Flower Fields, I
thought I would surprise you and share an early peek inside a very special greenhouse.

Let me be the first to say that we normally don't see poinsettias until close to Christmas
but they are already being specially prepared and grown inside a wonderful greenhouse.
The Ecke Family Farm is known worldwide for their beautiful poinsettias and most all
commercially grown poinsettias in this country originate from the Ecke Family Farm.

They are showing many of their varieties now in their greenhouse at The Flower Fields
in Carlsbad, California.

Take a look and enjoy...

I must admit that for some reason I have never really been a fan of the poinsettia...until now.
I especially like the new 1188 variety.  Do you have a favorite variety?

I will be linking to A Rosy Note for her Friday party.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

What a surprise post! I'm waiting for the lilacs to bloom here, but this was so interesting! I use deep pink in my home, and last year tried some white for a change, and actually like them mixed in. When the kids were little we went to Disney World the first week in December, and I was shocked to see the poinsettia planted in the beds and in the hanging baskets. Up here we worry about getting them from the shop to the car and then into the house without freezing them! I like the winter rose variety you are showing. As long as they don't put glitter on them, I'll take any! Linda

I like the fluffy looking ones but didn't know they would work well as a cut flower.

1188 is nice too.

I'm such a traditionalist that I love the look of a mass of poinsettias in a big silver bowl in December. The ones I like best - traditional Christmas red, although I like that red and white one too!

Susan,
How amazing!!! I love seeing these, as my in-laws also grow poinsettas for their garden center and I they've sent me pictures that are similar.

Hope your roses are blooming....mine will be in June!

"This is it", the rose up top.
What is it?
Do you know the name of it?
So good.
Sorry, I'm ignoring Xmas at this stage of the year :-)

I think I like the 1188 the best also. Around here we normally just get the normal white or red colors. Those are gorgeous!

What a wonderful post! Beautiful photos and SO interesting...makes me have a new appreciation for the plant! I particularly love the curly varieties! To think that all poinsettias today probably can be traced back to cuttings from their nursery! Thanks so much for sharing this, and for your nice comment on my lilac post today!

I don't think I have ever seen so many beautiful poinsettias. Your pictures are beautiful. One of the many pleasures during the holidays, putting the finishing touch on my Christmas decorations adding the poinsettias throughout the house. Lovely. I have to also say your perfect rose header is beautiful too...
