I recently visited the Los Angeles Arboretum to see a display of Cymbidium Orchids
and attend a demonstration on the care of these beautiful flowers.
It was a very overcast and chilly day and I thought seeing beautiful flowers would be
perfect for a day like this.
You might remember that I was at the Arboretum last August and showed you the
house where the television show Fantasy Island was filmed and later the first
Meet The Fockers film was also shot. When they finished production on the “Fockers”
film they painted the house back to the original Fantasy Island colors. You can visit
that post and read about it HERE.
When I arrived I was greeted by an old friend...
After greeting the peacock(who wouldn’t leave me alone)I went inside to the Orchid
display. It wasn’t a huge fancy show but the orchids were gorgeous!
After the care and planting demonstration, I went back outside where my feathered
friend was waiting and ready to show its beautiful peacock feathers...
Because it is too early in the season for much garden color and it was chilly outside,
I didn’t wander around as much as usual. However, there were other feathered friends
who insisted on saying hello....
Geese....
And a family of Ducks...
Visiting the Arboretum is always a delight and I look forward to later in the spring andsummer visiting the waterfalls again and other flower displays.
Now about the giveaway,
I love having both of these books in my collection and I thought you might like having
them in your collection, as well. They are, Mary Emmerling’s Beach Cottages...
At Home By The Sea. A beautiful book.
And, Seaside Style by Seaks and Taschen, another lovely book. If you would also like
to have these books in your collection please leave a comment and let me know you are
a follower. I will announce the winner on Sunday, April 10th.
Have a great week and I hope you are starting to see some beautiful spring flowers in
your area.

Thanks for the gorgeous photos of the cymbidium orchids. My cymbidiums are almost finished blooming, except for one with 12 pink spikes! I love your photo of the dark red cymbidium. The International Orchid Show was just here in Santa Barbara but I wasn't able to attend so I really enjoyed a virtual visit through your beatiful post.
PS I am a follower and would love to participate in your "giveaway" of the seaside books.

What a wonderful giveaway, thanks for the opportunity to win. I don't have either of these books, so I would love to add them to my collection.
Glad your blogger issues are getting resolved, and of course I'm a happy follower!
Kat :)
Orchids don't need a big show do they?
As for the peacock I remember that post! How nice he was there again to greet you. He sure is beautiful.
The orchids are all gorgeous! Aren't they the most exotic flower? I would love to have these books! I love everything about the ocean! Thanks! ♥ I'm a follower! ♥
Well, I made it here tonight after all! What a gorgeous display of orchids. That is one flower I have never owned but I went to visit my daughter today and she had a beautiful yellow one by her kitchen window. I was really surprised because she is not much of a "plant" person...and it was gorgeous...loaded with blooms.
You got some beautiful pictures!!!!
As for the giveaway...you know I am a follower but I will ask you to give my chance to someone else. I have won several give aways in the last few weeks and I am just feeling too guilty to sign up!! lol Seriously~;>)
Hope you have a wonderful remaining weekend. Diana
Ah, I love orchids but murder them quickly. This is a very sweet set of gifts. I am a follower of course. ♥O
Hi, I'm Nana Diana's friend, and saw your post on her blog.
The photos are wonderful, would love to see them matted and framed.
Put my name in your give away, please. I sometimes give away books on my blog, Jettie's Ramblings, where I do book reviews.
Beautiful photos, I love them, they should be matted and framed.
I'd love to be entered in your give away.
I especially love the photos of the darker pink orchids - they say 'luxury and indulgence' to me!
We have geese here too and I am always trying to discourage them from setting up housekeeping by our ponds. They make such a mess!
I'd love to enter the giveaway - the books look very interesting and I am a follower.
Hi Susan,
What a wonderful way to spend a cloudy, cold day. Your pictures of the orchids and feathered friends are beautiful! Those little ducklings just melt my heart. :)
Ooooh... sorry to hear about all the Blogger problems you've been having. The little glitches Blogger has sure can be sooo frustrating at times. Glad to hear it fixed itself... yay!
What a generous giveaway you're having! They look like wonderful books! While I'd love to have them in my collection, I've made a new blogging "rule" for myself not to enter anymore giveaways or linky parties.
I wanted to make sure to come by for a visit to say hi though and see what you've been up to. :)
Hope you're having a wonderful weekend!
xoxo,
Jo

What gorgeous orchids! you know I'm a fan! So lovely. I'm glad to see you posting again. Thanks for stopping by - your comments always make me smile!
My dream is to
live on the water,
some day, so these
would provide
beautiful fodder
for my longings!!
Loved the orchids.
I am crazy for them,
but always seem to
kill them with kindness.
Have you ever been
able to get yours to
re-bloom? {I'm assuming
you have some of your
own...} Sorry to hear
about your Blogger probs,
but looks like you
handled them admirably!
xx Suzanne
Love the orchids, I just bought one a few weeks ago, so far, so good!
I would love to enter your giveaway. I'm a very happy follower. these are the most gorgeous orchids I have ever seen. They must have just taken your breath away!
Our New York Botanical Gardens is also hosting an orchid show which I am going to miss! So thank you for showing me these--your pictures are wonderful! And that peacock is so funny--he must have a crush on you. I don't think we have any baby ducks yet because they would freeze their little feathers off! Linda
Oops, I forgot to say that I am your follower! Linda
Beautiful orchids! I love how intricate they are... orchids are kind of big deal here in Hawaii. They grow really well outside tied to the coconut trees.
Please sign me up for the giveaway :) The books look really cool!
And gorgeous they are! You captured some amazing photos of the orchids! Also, I have a very long story involving a peacock which I will save for another day.
Finally catching up from being away at market for the week. What a wonderful giveaway! Thank you for the chance to win.
